Lament, for English horn and tape, was composed in 1989 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Media Lab using Barry Vercoe's Csound computer music synthesis language. The short, lyric work establishes a dreamy and evocative atmosphere using classical synthesis techniques. Consequently, the work contrasts Mr. Nelson's other electroacoustic compositions which are primarily concerned with digitally processing sampled instrumental sounds.
